
The Dalai Lama
His Holiness, Tenzin Gyatso, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, is the spiritual and temporal leader of the Tibetan people. He has resided in exile in Dharamsala, India, since 1959, when Chinese forces invaded Tibet. His tireless efforts on behalf of world peace and human rights have brought him international recognition. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Wallenber Award (conferred by the U.S. Congressional Human Rights Foundation), the Albert Schweitzer Award, and in 1989 the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Tibetan struggle for liberty.
